THE COMMUNITY CIRCLE PROJECT: 2022 ART REVEAL

The Beloved Community Triptych

Attleboro Arts Museum, February 19-26, 2022

Art is an effective tool for introspection and societal change. In 2019,The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Committee of Greater Attleboro commissioned a collaborative art-making project to coincide with its 2020 commemoration of the King holiday to underscore and illustrate the principles of unity and brotherhood inherent in its program theme: Breaking through Bias: Accepting Our Differences. The goal of this activity was to engage our attendees in the necessary work of uprooting hidden prejudices and to help them to see the inherent value of each member of our community.

The finished artwork, a culmination of the day’s activity, illustrates how our differences are no cause for fear or division, but when combined create a beautiful tapestry and express a unified vision for our community. The committee dedicates these painting to those who participated in The Community Circle Project for their commitment to combating personal bias and working to create a vision of Beloved Community in Greater Attleboro.

The triptych canvases are now on permanent display in three locations:

  • Attleboro City Hall

  • Attleboro Public Library

  • Main Street office of Congressman Jake Auchincloss

We are deeply grateful to the Attleboro Arts Museum for hosting the art reveal and exhibit. The committee thanks artist, Sandy Coleman for her role in facilitating the activity and for creating the three canvases. These paintings were made possible by a grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
